Gilkes Energy Ltd was established in 2008 in order to help our clients develop and finance hydropower projects.
However our parent company Gilbert Gilkes & Gordon Ltd (GGG) has been around somewhat longer! Formed in 1853 (GGG) designs and manufactures hydro-electric turbines and ancillary equipment in the range up to 20MW. Based in Kendal in the English Lake District activities include design, manufacture, installation, commissioning, testing, routine service and plant upgrade.
Since our first turbine installation in 1856, we have been improving and refining designs ever since. With experience in over 80 countries and an installed base of more than 6,500 turbines, Gilkes is a world leader in hydro turbine design, manufacture and installation. Our Scottish customers are supported by four full-time service engineers based in Fort William and Invergordon. See the main GGG website www.gilkes.com for more information.
In 2012 we raised investment from two groups of experienced investors, both with significant capital at their disposal.
Grosvenor Green Energy Ltd – part of the Grosvenor Estate. Grosvenor has £12.5bn of assets under management.
CT Hydro Ltd – an investment vehicle set-up by Henry Chaplin (ex Noble Bank) and Mark Tyndall (Artemis) both experienced investors
The addition of our new investors allows us to make long-term commitments to our customers and partners and offer them the financial security of knowing a project will built properly and for the long-term.
In 2013 we expanded the Gilkes Energy team with the opening of a new office in Glasgow and the recruitment of four new experienced team members. The new Glasgow office provides civil engineering design and project management services to our Scottish projects.
